is a scientific and academic body of the Secretariat of the League of Arab States located in Algiers, Algeria. It was chartered in order to promote translation in and out of Arabic, as well as for teaching translation in the Arab world.
The Institute was inaugurated on Thursday 24th March 2005 by the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Amr Moussa. The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Abdelaziz Belkhaddem, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mrs. Khalida Toumi, Algerian Minister of Culture, a host of ambassadors as well as numerous political and intellectual figures.
In January 2006, the Institute opened its doors to its first class of 30 students (20 in the translation section and 10 in interpretation). As of this year, the Institute is hosting its fifteenth class, which has grown to 60 master’s students in three different specialities: Translation, Interpretation and Translation technologies.
