Within the framework of the preparation of Algiers Arab Capital of Culture 2007, the organizing body of the cultural events concluded an agreement with the High Arab Institute of Translation stipulating that the latter shall translate upwards of one hundred books into Arabic.
The project has been a huge success. More than one hundred books written mostly by Algerian authors and in subjects as diverse as history, geography, sociology, folklore and literature (novels, short stories, poetry and children’s literature) were translated into Arabic from three languages: French, English and Tamazight.
The project has also been a great achievement for the Institute since it gained the trust of the organizing body, even though it is a fledgling institution in the field of translation in the Arab world.
In order to carry out its mission of producing high-quality translations, the Institute contracted with language experts and editors from Algeria and around the Arab World.
