This is one of the core project we’re working on. The institute is betting on it to be a breakthrough towards changing the landscape of children’s litterature and children’s books in the Arab World and give it the push forward it desperately needs, as evidenced by statistics indicating that the average child in the Arab World reads no more than 6 minutes per year outside of school, which is the daily average in the United States !
In another study conducted by UNESCO, the volume of children’s books released in a year is about 400 books in the Arab World, that’s compared to 13260 books in the US, 3838 in the UK, 2118 in France, 1340 in Italy and 1485 in Russia. The reason we’re lagging so much behind may lie in us not giving enough care to the childrens’ concerns and preoccupations. And despite care for children being a core tennant of our creed, we lost the initiative in drawing the attention of the world to this crucial issue, we fell behind in producing litterature appropriate to the child’s mental capabilities, his tendancies and general state of being, and a positive actor in his development and growth. Hence the need for translating children’s book and bringing what’s being published in the world to our children who are the future of our nations.
20 such books have already been translated and revised, and are in the process of being published. And it is our hope that they find their way soon into libraries and homes all over the Arab World. But this just the start, and it is our will, hope and ambition to continue translating and publishing, but we need your support and help in any way you can, so don’t hesitate to contact us, our door is always open, and we are ever willing, striving and working towards the betterment of our world
